Restore The Wonder
Restore The Wonder is a faith-based nonprofit serving children who are in foster care or have experienced foster care. Through camps and meaningful relationships, we create spaces where kids can experience hope, belonging, joy, and the love of Jesus.
Our Story
Restore The Wonder was born from a deeply personal story.Our founder is a survivor of childhood abuse and knows firsthand the hurt, questions, insecurities, and vulnerabilities that can follow childhood trauma. Years ago, God placed a dream in his heart: to one day become the kind of person for hurting children that he needed when he was young.
That dream became Restore The Wonder.
What began in Southeast Missouri has grown into something bigger than we could have imagined. Over the last five summers, Restore The Wonder has served 295 children, and in 2027, we are expanding to serve children and families in both Southeast Missouri and the Kansas City area.
Two Regions. One Mission. The need across Missouri is significant.
Southeast Missouri has the highest per-capita rate of children in foster care in the state. And together, Southeast Missouri and the Kansas City area represent approximately 46% of Missouri’s children in foster care.
Those aren’t just statistics to us. They represent children with stories, families who need support, and communities where we believe we can make a difference. That’s why Restore The Wonder is committed to serving both regions—bringing together churches, volunteers, foster families, and community partners around one mission:
Helping children experience the wonder of being known, loved, celebrated, and reminded that their story matters.
The Restore The Wonder Experience
At the heart of our camp experience is a simple but powerful commitment: every child is paired one-to-one with a trained adult counselor. For several days, that child has someone whose job is simply to show up for them—to encourage them, celebrate them, listen to them, have fun with them, and remind them that they matter. Camp is filled with outdoor adventures, water activities, crafts, games, worship, interactive Bible teaching, and plenty of fun. One of the highlights of every week is a huge birthday celebration where every camper is celebrated and receives birthday gifts of their own. And it is all provided at no cost to the child or their family.
Part of Something Bigger
Restore The Wonder is a local chapter of For The Children, a national organization that has been serving children who have experienced foster care for more than 40 years. Through that relationship, our camps are part of a proven model of care, training, safety, and excellence while remaining locally led and focused on the children and communities we serve.
