Restore The Wonder would not be possible without an incredible team of volunteers who choose to show up for our kids. And it takes a lot of us.

In 2027, it will take more than 200 volunteers serving across Southeast Missouri and Kansas City to make Restore The Wonder possible. But one of the things we love most about camp is that it’s bigger than any one church, organization, or community.

In 2026 alone, 22 different churches were represented on our volunteer team—people from different places and backgrounds coming together around one mission: showing up for kids who are worth showing up for.

How Can I Serve?

Become a Counselor

Counselors are at the heart of the Restore The Wonder experience. Each counselor is paired one-to-one with a camper for the week and becomes that child’s biggest cheerleader.

You’ll eat together. Play together. Experience camp together. Celebrate together. And throughout the week, you’ll have countless opportunities to encourage your camper and remind them that they are seen, valued, and worth showing up for.

You won’t do it alone. Counselors and campers are part of a larger pod and cabin community, surrounded by other volunteers and camp leadership throughout the entire experience.

Your job is simple: show up, love your camper well, and have a whole lot of fun.

Join the Camp Staff

Not every volunteer serves as a counselor—and it takes an incredible team behind the scenes to make camp happen. Camp staff serve in areas like activities, crafts, sports, medical care, logistics, hospitality, photography, production, and more. Whatever your skill set, there may be a place for you on the team.

What Does It Take?

Every volunteer completes an intentional process to help us create a safe and excellent camp environment:

1. Apply — Complete a volunteer application for the camp you want to attend.

1. Interview — Meet with one of our camp leaders.

2. Prepare — Complete required screening, background checks, and training.

3. Invest — Most volunteers contribute $600 toward their own camp expenses and may fundraise to help cover that cost.

4. Show Up — Come ready to serve, have fun, and give a few unforgettable days to our kids.

There’s a Place for You. You don’t have to attend a certain church. You don’t have to be a foster-care expert. And you don’t have to have some extraordinary skill. You just have to be willing to show up, be trained, serve well, and believe that these kids are worth your time.
