Life Change Happens Here
Restore The Wonder
Restore The Wonder is a non-profit located in Cape Girardeau, MO that exists to engage the broken hearts of abused children. Simply said: “Life Change Happens Here.” The founder is a survivor of child abuse. He knows firsthand what it’s like to live with insecurities, hurts, questions, and vulnerabilities.
Many years ago, God birthed a dream in his heart that he would be able to be the person to help abused children the way he needed help when he was younger. That dream came to fruition with the launch of Restore the Wonder Ministries and their endeavor to host faith-based summer camps for children currently in foster care. The camps seek to offer the children one of the best weeks of their life at no cost to the child or their foster family. Using the outdoors, water activities, crafts, daily services with fun and interactive bible teachings, and more, the counselors and staff of the camp help kids briefly forget about their pain and build positive relationships. They even host a birthday party for every child at camp, because many children in foster care do not get to celebrate their birthdays because they are often forgotten.
Restore the Wonder partners with the local foster care system and a national organization known as “For the Children.” Through those partnerships and the volunteers that serve, they can give the children one-on-one time and undivided attention for the week of camp. In Southeast Missouri alone, there are over 3000 kids that sleep in a borrowed bed, in a borrowed home, with borrowed parents. That’s heartbreaking. But Restore the Wonder ministries believes although they can’t do everything, they can do everything they can.
